NL 2012: Escher in het Paleis

Last Sunday we finally went to the Escher museum. One of the great things about the museum is that it's in the former Winter Palace of Queen Mother Emma of the Netherlands. So not only do you go from area to area looking at these amazing works, but the rooms they're in have beautiful details on the walls and ceilings. One of the things I really enjoyed was the different chandlers put up as part of the display. There are interactive elements to the some of the displays: kids get a sheet with a snippet of a picture and they need to find the original and write down the name, there are a few illustrations on the ground and indications of the best spot to take a picture for full effect, you can scroll through one of the longer designs, or take a picture of yourself in a block, or walk across a falling walkway or go into a room and feel as if you're going to fall. It's a lot of fun, and just great to see. Time for pictures :).

The wall decor lets you know this building was a palace.

This one used ink and pencil.

Art above one of the doorways.

This chandler is one of my favourites.

If you wanted to you could take a photo sitting in the corner.

I prefer the reflection works, like this one.

A poor attempt to get a mirror off mirror photo.

Beautiful crown moulding.

Photos of some of the illustrated landscapes.

Reflection of the street in a mirror.

I want one ;).

This pattern is one of my favourites.

Cards you could buy in the museum shop.

This went all the way to the top of the building.

Reflections and illusions on the 2nd floor.

Gorgeous ceiling work.

Part of the Queen Emma display.

More of the Queen Emma display.

A portion of a meters long display.

This is just amazing.

Loved this room.

Floor illusions.
